What is a days between dates calculator?
A days between dates calculator is an online tool that counts how many days lie between two calendar dates and also shows the result in weeks and as weekdays. By default it counts from the start date up to, but not including, the end date, so 1 March to 8 March is 7 days. Tick the option to include the end date and the same range becomes 8 days, which suits a hotel stay or an event where both the first and the last day count. Weekdays are Monday to Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are skipped, but public holidays are not, because they differ by country and region. For example, 1 March 2026 to 31 March 2026 is 30 days, or 31 days with the end date included. If the end date is before the start date, the calculator swaps the two dates and tells you. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
Including the end date
By default the calculator counts the days from the start date up to, but not including, the end date. Tick the option to include the end date when both days count, for example for a hotel stay or an event that includes the last day.
Weekdays are Monday to Friday. Public holidays are not taken into account.
Worked example: 4 May to 25 June 2026
Take Monday 4 May 2026 as the start date and Thursday 25 June 2026 as the end date. With the end date excluded, which is the default, the calculator shows 52 days. That is 7 weeks and 3 days, because 7 times 7 is 49 and 3 days remain. Of those days, 38 are weekdays from Monday to Friday, since 25 June itself is not counted.
Now tick the option to include the end date. The range becomes 53 days, or 7 weeks and 4 days, and the weekday count rises to 39, because 25 June is a Thursday and therefore a weekday. The only change is one extra day at the end, which is why it matters to decide beforehand whether the last day belongs to your period.
To check a result by hand, count the days left in the first month, add the full months in between and add the days in the last month. For the example above that is 27 days from 4 May to 31 May plus 25 days in June, which makes 52. The calculator does this in one step and avoids slips with months of different lengths.
Typical uses and the effect of leap years
People most often count days to check a deadline, to see how much of a notice period or a trial period is left, to plan a countdown to a trip or an event, or to find out how long a project phase lasted. Use the weeks result to turn a long span into a figure that is easier to plan with, and the weekdays result for a rough idea of working time. Public holidays are not removed, so subtract them yourself if they apply. Contracts and rules can define their own way of counting days, so check the exact wording that applies to you.
Leap years change the length of ranges that span a February. From 1 February 2024 to 1 March 2024 there are 29 days, while the same range in 2025 has 28. A full year can also differ: 15 December 2023 to 15 December 2024 is 366 days because it contains 29 February 2024, whereas 15 December 2024 to 15 December 2025 is 365 days. The calculator uses the real calendar, so these differences are included automatically.

Frequently asked questions
How do I count days between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later one. The calculator does it for you and shows days, weeks and weekdays.
Is the end date included?
Not by default. Tick the option to include it.
Does it exclude weekends?
Yes. Switch on weekdays only to count Monday to Friday. Holidays are not removed.
What if the end is before the start?
The calculator swaps the dates and tells you.
How many weeks are 52 days?
52 days are 7 weeks and 3 days. The calculator shows the weeks and the remaining days next to the total.
Does a leap year change the result?
Yes, if the range contains 29 February. That day is counted like any other day, so a range across it is one day longer.
